About this calculator
Updated
Independent editorial team. Every numeric claim cites a primary source — IRS / agency publication, federal or state statute, or controlling case law.
Severance Calculator is a free tool for US employees evaluating a severance offer, separation agreement, or layoff notice. It estimates federal and state supplemental withholding, FICA, COBRA cost, WARN Act applicability, OWBPA review windows, equity treatment at termination, and the Section 280G parachute flag. The calculator runs entirely in your browser; inputs are never sent to a server.
Every numeric output is traced to a primary source — an IRS publication, a state revenue or labor department publication, the WARN Act (29 U.S.C. ch. 23), or the controlling state statute. See How this works for the calculator engine details, or the Methodology page for the per-output computation walkthrough.
A note on contributor anonymity
Contributor names are not published. Severance is a topic where employees regularly face employer retaliation; an anonymous byline lets contributors with relevant experience contribute without professional risk. The work itself stands or falls on the primary sources cited on each page.
